In an exciting twist, a novel written by a first-time author won the Red Maple Award - the winner was ‘If We Tell You’, by Nicola Dahlin. Runners-up were ‘The Factory’ by Catherine Egan, and ‘Finding Harmony’ by Eric Walters.  We met several of our favourite authors, attended workshops hosted by authors/illustrators, and visited the many booths and displays. We even got to get our photos taken while determining, ‘How many books tall am I?’ It was great to have Ms. Milford share such a wonderful day with the students! We want to extend our thanks to Ms. Newell for organizing such an amazing experience, and Mme. Coaches were very impressed with the talent, effort, and enthusiasm shown by all students. The teams played very well and had a lot of fun taking to the field this week in a couple exhibition games in preparation for the tournament next week on Wednesday May 20th. We are looking forward to a fun tournament at LCVI! -Coaches Brown and Ross<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Road Race </h2>Our running club members participated in the LCVI Road Race last week and did a phenomenal job! All of our senior girls had great times, and one of our senior girls even made the top 10. Our boys team finished in 2nd, with a 1st and 6th place finish from two of our senior boys. Well done runners, your coaches are proud of all of your hard work and dedication! We look forward to continuing to practice for the month of May alongside our distance runners for Track & Field. -Coaches Whitmarsh and Sam<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Track & Field </h2>Track and Field practices are off to a great start. The practice schedule for all of May and June is posted on the sports board and events are colour coded. Scheduled training blocks run Monday at lunch, Monday after school, Tuesday at lunch, Thursday at lunch, and Thursday after school. Please ask your athlete which training blocks they are scheduled to attend.The Region 2 track and field meet is on Wednesday, June 3rd. Athletes who advance will compete at the District meet on Tuesday, June 9th. Limestone Students Shine at the 2026 Ontario Skills Competition

Limestone District School Board students showcased their outstanding skills and talent at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition, held in Toronto on May 4 and 5, 2026.The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for top students from across the province to demonstrate that they are truly the best in their field. Over two and a half days, competitors impress educators, family members, friends, and potential employers through hands-on, real‑world challenges. We thank parents for helping their student "keep their foot on the gas" and finish strong in their academic engagement and behaviour. There are many special events, team building activities and class trips planned - we encourage all students to engage and enjoy! Staff have seen an increase in students accessing the food sharing offerings. We have reminded students that the food is available for those who don't have enough food; it is not an alternative to good planning and lunch packing on the student's part. We encourage students to make their plans ahead of time instead of using the phone at school to set up last minute plans with friends. Thanks for your support.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Running Club</h2>Running club has officially started its spring iteration! We will be doing volume runs and intervals, as well as some drillwork, to prepare them for the races. Practices will be held Tuesdays at lunch and Thursdays after school. Students do not have to attend the races to be on the team, all are welcome to come and run whether they are inclined to race or not. For those with a competitive streak, there are two road races coming up that we would love for students to attend. The race distance is just under 3k. We will ensure that students signed up to race are able to run this distance before they compete. The first race was the Bayridge Road Race and the second is the LCVI road race, which will be in the afternoon on Wednesday May 6th. Students who attend practices and have expressed interest will be invited to participate in these races to represent Acadie (keep an eye on School Day)! Students will need to arrange their own transportation to and from both events. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: justify;">Bayridge Road Race Results</h2>Congratulations to our runners who participated in the Bayridge Road Race on Tuesday April 28th! There were around 80 runners in both the girls and boys senior divisions. We had two girls and two boys finish in the top 10 of their respective divisions, with a 2nd place finish from one of our grade 8 runners! The entire running club represented our school exceptionally well and you made your running coaches proud. Better Mental Health.”</a> This theme highlights the importance of meaningful social connection as a protective factor for mental well‑being. Research consistently shows that fostering a sense of belonging can enhance resilience, reduce stress, and support overall health across all age groups. Throughout the week, our school will be engaging students in activities that promote inclusion, positive relationships, and supportive school environments. These daily initiatives are designed to strengthen classroom and schoolwide connections, encourage empathy and kindness, and reinforce that every member of our community is valued. We invite families to join us in recognizing Mental Health Week by taking moments at home to connect, whether through conversation, shared activities, or simply checking in with one another. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. A gentle reminder that students need to dress for success (and the weather). We have seen an increase in children accessing the food sharing offerings. We encourage those who need to take food to help themselves in the day. We will be doing volume runs and intervals, as well as some drillwork, to prepare them for the races. Practices will be held Tuesdays at lunch and Thursdays after school. They do not have to attend the races to be on the team, all are welcome to come and run whether they are inclined to race or not. For those with a competitive streak, there are two road races coming up that we would love for students to attend. The race distance is just under 3k. We will ensure that students signed up to race are able to run this distance before they compete. The first race is the Bayridge Road Race on the afternoon of Tuesday April 28th and the second is the LCVI road race, which will be in the afternoon on Wednesday May 6th. Students who attend practices and have expressed interest will be invited to participate in these races to represent Acadie (keep an eye on School Day)! Our cast party on Wednesday April 15th will mark the end of our drama club this year. The English teachers have explained the criteria that students must meet to be selected to attend. Students have been offered ‘expression of interest’ forms to fill in and submit to their English teacher by Thursday, April 23rd. Students in Ms. Milford’s class can hand them in to Ms. Benn or Ms. Newell. The English Department teachers, in conjunction with administrators, will then select which students to bring on the trip. The cost per student will be approximately $80.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Book Sale</h2>The book sale will continue to take place in English classrooms throughout the coming weeks. Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">year</a> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. Unless there is a downpour, students will be outside regardless of the weather for a minimum of 40 minutes and sometimes an additional 40 minute Physical Education period. Boots, a change of clothes, and a warmer layer are encouraged, indoor shoes are imperative! Students who are not dressed for the weather conditions will live the natural consequences of being hot/cold and wet. Reach out to the school if you need support providing clothing for Spring weather conditions. ~ Sarah<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Food Sharing</h2>The Food Sharing program at Acadie aims to provide nourishment to students to improve their readiness to learn.  Our program is an open, grab and go program. Lavergne’s 7E1, 7L1 and 7L2 math classes were challenged to memorize as many digits of Pi as possible. The 3 students with the highest number of digits memorized won a pie from Bread and Butter. The lucky (hard-working) winners were Claire of 7E1 (120 digits), Malak of 7E1 (65 digits), and Sophia of 7L1 (87 digits). We look forward to meeting her little man soon! Bienvenue à Mme Whitmarsh (Denbeigh), who is replacing Mme Rhamey-Bennett for the rest of the year. Mme Whitmarsh will be teaching French, Phys. Ed., and Math to 7E2, and Math to 7E3. She holds a B.A. in French Literature from McGill, a teaching degree from AUT in New Zealand, and is currently enrolled as a PhD student in English Literature at Queen’s. She is very excited to be teaching at Acadie this spring, and is looking forward to getting to know everyone. Mme Whitmarsh was also on the XC/Track team at McGill, and so she is pumped to be helping out with the Acadie Track and Field team too! We learned about local animals and how they interact within their ecosystems. Lavergne for bringing students to the Limestone Skills Competition held at St. Lawrence College. Students competed in both LEGO Robotics and LEGO Mechanical Engineering.In LEGO Robotics, students must code their robots to autonomously complete a variety of tasks in order to score as many points as possible. In LEGO Mechanical Engineering, students build a robot that requires no coding but must complete a variety of tasks using gear ratios, claws, extending arms, and other mechanical components. Acadie students had an amazing time and represented our school well.Congratulations to Grayson, Mackenzie, and Elliot, who placed third in the LEGO Mechanical Engineering competition. This fee will be payable through schoolday by the end of next week. Limestone District School Board Welcomes 2026–2027 Student Trustees

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2026–2027 Student Trustees, who will be formally welcomed at the April meeting of the Board.Student trustees play an important role in bringing student perspectives to board-level discussions, helping ensure that student voice is reflected in decision-making across the district. Admission is free. 7 to 9 pm. ~ M Davey<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Basketball </h2><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Girls Basketball</h3>The girls' basketball season wrapped up at Thursday’s LESSA Championship tournament hosted by Queen’s University.The girls played incredibly well in the round-robin games, making the semi-finals against a strong Loughborough team. We won that game in a dramatic double-overtime fashion. In the finals, we went up against a well-coached LaSalle team with strong guards and forwards. Although we lost, it was a fairly close game, and we are proud to call ourselves championship finalists! Coaches Benn and Doucet are incredibly proud of these girls, who were an absolute pleasure to coach. The Acadie teams played with tremendous heart and skill throughout the day. The Acadie B team dominated their playoff games and went on to capture first place, finishing the tournament as champions. We are incredibly proud of their determination, teamwork, and steady improvement throughout the season. Coaches Brown and Ross are extremely proud of all the boys.
