Hallowe'en

We're excited for Hallowe'en this weekend, and intend to see lots of creative costumes at school on Friday the 30th. Our Social Committee has organized some prizes for the classes with the most people dressed up in a costume or black and orange. Members of the committee will be around for the count in the afternoon tomorrow. Please remember our costume rules: no masks – staff must be able to see your face and eyes, no weapons (knives, guns, swords, etc.) - even plastic ones, and culture is not costume – we do not appropriate other peoples' cultures for a dress-up day.

Winter weather -> Let's dress for success!

Winter weather is just around the corner as we start November. Please have a discussion with your child about what appropriate winter attire looks like and discuss strategies for being prepared for winter weather in the coming months. All students spend at least 40 minutes outdoors at lunch recess, and outdoor education & PE classes are held outdoors several times per week.

All students should have appropriate outdoor winter footwear and indoor shoes that are acceptable for indoor PE – pas de crocs! Students who are not dressed for the weather, or choose not to put their winter footwear on to go outside, will live with the consequences. No supervision is available for students who decide half-way through recess that it was a bad idea to wear their Birkenstocks out in the snow.

Please reach out to the main office if you need support with Winter gear for your student.

Grade 7 and Grade 8 Catch-up Vaccines

The first round of vaccines will be November 5-6. See below for information from Southeast Public Health regarding grade 7 vaccines:

Progress reports:

Progress report cards will be sent home with your student on November 13th. This report card is based on the teachers' observations and evidence of learning during the first 8 weeks of school. You'll find learning skills marks and comments on the front page. Your child will be assigned either progressing very well, progressing well, or progressing with difficulty for each subject that they're taking this term. Subjects that also get a comment from the teacher are: French, English, and Math. The other subjects will not be commented on unless the student is rated as 'progressing with difficulty.'

Bus cancellation information

Information for families regarding preparing for winter-related bus delays and cancellations has been added to the LDSB district site and all school sites as a news item: Preparing for Winter-Related Bus Delays and Cancellations 2026-2027

5 Day Cycle

Have you seen your child's timetable? This is an excellent visual to help with discussion about their school day. Elementary schools run on a 5 day cycle. The days shift when there is a PA day or holiday. Please help your child organize bringing their instrument and appropriate PE gear based on their timetables and the 5 day cycle.

Food Sharing

Thanks to the Kingston Food Sharing Project who keeps our Food Sharing supply full. Food is for students who forgot their lunch, need a little more to get them through the day or who for whatever reason don't have enough food that day for breakfast or lunch. Please talk with your child about the responsible/appropriate use of the Food Sharing offerings.

Red Maple Reading Program

The Red Maple books we ordered upon learning of this year's titles have arrived via Canada Post! The staff are very excited to be getting these books into the hands of students as soon as possible. We're in the process of labelling, stamping, and stickering them. We usually order 2 sets for each class in the school, but due to budget restraints, we've ordered 1 set per class. We're hoping to see which titles catch the interest of our young readers and order more copies of those titles. We're heartened by the generosity of our Acadie families who have donated 1 or more books to the school via School Day! This remains an active item on School Day in the PRODUCTS tab if you'd like to donate a book in your family's name.

FSS Coffee House Concert Featuring Acadie Musicians

The Fall Coffee House was held on October 21st from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. This open mic style talent show included many students from both Acadie and Frontenac. We are thankful for the continued collaboration between FSS and Acadie music departments!

X-Country

The District Cross Country Championships for LESSA was held at Fort Henry on October 20th. Congratulations to all 24 of our cross-country runners who competed on a warm, sunny fall day! Every runner gave their best effort, demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, and showed incredible support for their teammates and competitors from other schools. Our boys' team earned an impressive 2nd-place overall finish, led by Emmitt, who placed 4th, and George, who finished 9th. Our girls' team finished 3rd overall, highlighted by a strong 6th-place finish from Cheyanne and a 13th-place finish from Dylynn. Thank you to all of our runners for an excellent season. It was a pleasure coaching such a dedicated and supportive group of athletes. We are very proud of everything you accomplished and look forward to starting Running Club again in the spring!  Thanks to coaches Ms Doucet and M Sam for volunteering their time to coach this season.

Popcorn sale

Our popular popcorn sale is back for November! There are five tasty flavours from Kernels: dill pickle, caramel, cheese, jalapeno and butter salt. All flavours are gluten-free. Each bag is $2.50. Proceeds go towards mathematics activities and resources at Acadie.

Lego Robotics

The Lego Robotics team has met for its second time this week with a great showing of roughly 20 students. We are working hard to learn some basic coding skills for our robots and how to use the different sensors in our kit. Students are demonstrating some great collaboration and problem solving. Keep it up Wolves! If your child is interested in joining, have them touch base with M. Lavergne. Meetings take place Tuesdays after school from 2:30 to 4:00.

Future Learning in Health Classes

As part of LDSB's ongoing commitment to transparency and collaboration with families, this email outlines the purpose and distribution timelines for Forms 325-A, 325-B, 325-C, and 325-D, all of which support the implementation of the Human Development and Sexual Health component of the Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum for Grades 1-8.

Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child by completing Form 325-B five school days before the start of instruction.

Prior to instruction, your child's health teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to Human Development and Sexual Health in Strand D will be covered.

For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption from Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

City of Kingston

E-scooters are easy to find, but they aren't toys and aren't designed for kids. In Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old to ride wherever e-scooters are permitted.

In Kingston, e-scooters are not currently permitted. The City is developing a Micromobility Regulations Strategy — with updated rules around e-scooters, e-bikes and other lightweight, rideable transportation — to support safe, accessible and sustainable travel around Kingston. The strategy, which considers public engagement feedback and research into best practices, will be presented to Council for consideration later this year.
