Hi Acadie families -
It is a long one this week, but I promise it is worth it! Scroll all the way to the bottom for the new Acadie Merch e-store and upcoming events.

Halloween
Students are invited to wear black and orange or their costume on Friday, October 31st. Please note that any costumes need to be culturally appropriate (traditional clothing from a specific group of people is not a costume), non-violent (no weapons allowed at school, plastic or otherwise), and can not cover the entire face.
Weather-permitting, we will be outside in the afternoon doing some Halloween-themed relay races, so students should make sure they are able to run in their costumes.
Go Girls Eng
On Friday, October 17th, 60 female-identifying students participated in hands-on Engineering workshops hosted at Queen’s University. Led by female mentors from Queen’s, the sessions gave students the chance to explore electrical circuits, learn about robotics—including a demonstration of a robotic dog—and design, build, and test their own catapults.
Thank you, Ms. Doucet, Ms. Milford, and Mme Keely for taking our students to this engaging day.
Cross Country
Regional Meet
On Wednesday, October 15th, 24 Acadie runners participated in the Regional Cross Country Race at Fort Henry. The team ran with determination, pride, and incredible effort. In the girls’ race, Vaille finished 1st, followed closely by Natalie, Ivy, Neve, and Emmalene who placed 5th through 8th respectively. Cheyanne rounded out the top ten with a strong finish. On the boys’ side, Carter took 1st place, with Seb finishing 3rd, Sam 5th, Ethan 7th, Everitt 9th, and Nathaniel 10th. Both the boys and girls teams took home gold for the top team overall! The coaches were extremely impressed with our athletes’ positivity, kindness, and respect shown to all athletes and adults throughout the event.
District Finals
Wednesday, October 22nd, was a cold, wet, and windy day that presented many challenges on the race course. Despite the tough conditions, 23 Wolves represented our school at the District Finals and showed incredible perseverance and determination. We are so proud of all of you for pushing through and giving your best effort!
A special congratulations goes out to Vaille, who finished 7th in the girls’ race. In the boys’ race, Carter captured 1st place, followed by Seb in 5th, Sam in 6th, and Ethan in 11th. Their outstanding performances earned the Senior Boys team the gold medal, finishing with the lowest total points in their division!
Way to go, Wolves — we are so proud of your hard work, teamwork, and resilience! Thank you M. Sam and Ms Doucet for coaching the team this fall.
Volleyball
All Acadie volleyball tryouts began this week, coaches were very impressed with the dedication, volleyball skills and positive sportsmanship! Volleyball tryouts continue the week of October 27th. As a reminder, the printed schedules are posted to our Sports & Clubs bulletin board available for pick up as well as shared on daily announcements.
Next week’s schedule is as follows;
Red Maple
The Ontario Library Association’s Forest of Reading program is Canada’s largest recreational reading program. This initiative offers ten reading programs to encourage a love of reading in people of all ages. The Forest helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators.
The grade 7 and 8 reading program is called Red Maple, and the 10 Canadian fiction books chosen for 2025-2026 were announced this week. Every year, with the generous help of the School Council, Acadie purchases sets of the 10 books for each classroom. Students who read 5 or more of the 10 books will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite book in the spring. The winners are announced in May at various celebrations around Ontario. Students from Acadie who have actively participated in the program will have an opportunity to attend the Festival of Reading ceremony in Toronto in May.
The books have now been ordered and we hope they arrive soon! The books should also be at the Kingston Public Library to borrow.
This year’s books are:
The Dark Won’t Wait by David A. Poulson
The Discovery of Finnegan Wilde by Caroline Pignat
The Factory by Catherine Egan
Finding Harmony by Eric Walters
If We Tell You by Nicola Dahlin
Is There a Boy Like Me? by Kern Carter
No Purchase Necessary by Maria Marianayagam
Old School by Gordon Korman

Youth Imagine the Future
In a project that combines Geography and Art, students in Mme Gauthier-Marois' classes are working hard to show how our future can be better! Projects include research on an element of environmental sustainability, then a creative piece that demonstrates a positive solution to an environmental or social problem. Ask your child what they are working on!
Art Club
Art Club has been running for numerous weeks now with great success and enjoyment. Students have been exploring origami, making fidgets with beads, friendship bracelets, crochet, needle felting, and of course drawing!
8L Science
On Tuesday, 8L1 had their ‘cell’bration to showcase their understanding of cells by building model cells. Here are a few of the final products! 8L2 will be having their ‘cell’bration next Monday, October 27th.
