We will wish Mme Rhamey well as she starts her maternity leave and welcomes "Baby Bennett" at some point in the next few weeks. We look forward to meeting her little man soon!
Bienvenue à Mme Whitmarsh (Denbeigh), who is replacing Mme Rhamey-Bennett for the rest of the year. Mme Whitmarsh will be teaching French, Phys. Ed., and Math to 7E2, and Math to 7E3. She holds a B.A. in French Literature from McGill, a teaching degree from AUT in New Zealand, and is currently enrolled as a PhD student in English Literature at Queen’s. She is very excited to be teaching at Acadie this spring, and is looking forward to getting to know everyone. Mme Whitmarsh was also on the XC/Track team at McGill, and so she is pumped to be helping out with the Acadie Track and Field team too!
There is lots to read this week ... and I added lots of photos for you to enjoy too. Have a WONDERFUL March Break. ~ Sarah
Spring Recess & Spring Weather Clothing
It is important for students to have an opportunity to get outside during our day for exercise, socialization, fresh air and sunshine. We will be going out if it is chilly, wet and/or mucky! Students need to dress appropriately or endure the natural consequences. Please discuss at home the benefits of outdoor time and family expectations for dress. Reach out to the school if you need support providing clothing for Spring weather conditions.
Gould Lake Visit with 7E2 & 7E3
Our trip to Gould Lake was fantastic! We hiked the trails with our amazing guides who shared stories and helped us explore the forest. We built campfires together and even cooked our own lunches over the flames. Definitely a highlight! We learned about local animals and how they interact within their ecosystems. It was a great day of outdoor learning, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
Open House
Thank you to Mme Lesperance and the 7E4 class, and M Sam and the 7L2 volunteers for creating a fantastic Open House for future Acadie grade 7s.
Those who are looking for more information about registering at Acadie for next year can contact the office.
Limestone Skills
Thank you to M. Lavergne for bringing students to the Limestone Skills Competition held at St. Lawrence College. Students competed in both LEGO Robotics and LEGO Mechanical Engineering.
In LEGO Robotics, students must code their robots to autonomously complete a variety of tasks in order to score as many points as possible. In LEGO Mechanical Engineering, students build a robot that requires no coding but must complete a variety of tasks using gear ratios, claws, extending arms, and other mechanical components. Acadie students had an amazing time and represented our school well.
Congratulations to Grayson, Mackenzie, and Elliot, who placed third in the LEGO Mechanical Engineering competition. Congratulations as well to Ryker, Liam, Leo, and Matthew, who placed first in LEGO Mechanical Engineering and secured a spot for Acadie at the provincial competition, Ontario Skills, held in Toronto on May 3.
Acadie Play
Students have been rehearsing and preparing since November to put on Poulterguise, a spooky comedy about a possible “haunting” at a middle school. We will have a total of three shows on April 8th and 9th! Two matinees for Acadie students and elementary students, and one evening show at 6:30 pm on April 8th. A donation to the arts upon entry is appreciated; we hope to see you there! ~ M Sam
Grade 7 M
usique
Have you heard practice? Grade 7s are just finishing up their first test of the term - encourage your musician to hold a concert for you, and show you their light green rubric with mark and feedback. If your child plays the Sax or Clarinet please check in with them to hear if they have sufficient reeds - ideally, they should have 4.
Acadie Hockey/Skating day
A huge thank you to M Brown, Mme Fitz and Mme Lasko for organizing, along with all of the Acadie staff for supporting and supervising this event. It was lovely to see the students enjoying sharing their hockey skills with their peers and then practising (and some brand new learning) skating.
Indigenous Learning - Beading in Art Class
An Indigenous beading expert from the school board office helped 7E3 learn the art of loom beading. We designed patterns, then had the chance to try out this traditional art form for ourselves. During the week we learned the importance of patience and perseverance as we investigated a new creative skill. Student work was gorgeous! ~ M Gauthier-Marois
Manie Musicale is Back On!
Manie Musicale is an annual bracket-style competition for students and teachers of French. Similar to March Madness basketball in the United States, participants try to predict which of 16 francophone songs will be the most popular. Once the tournament starts, voters decide which song will advance to the next round until we have a champion. The best part? Students learn French while having fun with students from all over the world.
If you would like to join in on the fun with your child, just pop on the playlist while you are driving the parent taxi:

FSS band - term 2
The level 100 band is back this term and is stronger than ever! We have many folks returning from last year, and many new folks this term!
After careful consideration, we have decided to implement a user fee of $40. All of the current curriculars at FSS charge a user fee. This user fee is intended to support the purchase of new music primarily, as well as some incidentals like snacks, and copying costs. This fee will be payable through schoolday by the end of next week. We do not want this fee to be a barrier, so please speak to Mme Lasko if this is not financially possible for you at this time.
On another note, we are working towards our first spring performance at the Coffee House March 25th in the library. Admission is free. 7 to 9 pm. ~ M Davey
Basketball
3:3 basketball
Thank you to all participants and volunteers who came out for last Friday’s 3v3 basketball tournament. It was a lot of fun and every team played with energy, determination, and plenty of school spirit. A big congratulations to the Steppe Wolves and the Dire Wolves for taking home the tournament win! We’re proud of everyone who joined in and helped make the event such a fun success. ~ M Ross & M Brown
Thank you to M Brown and M Ross who volunteered in organizing and coaching the Recreational basketball league that took place during the noon hour and at the weekend tournament.
Acadie Book Sale
The Social Committee is still accepting donations to the book sale to raise funds for the Red Maple trip to Toronto in May. If you’re clearing out books at home that are appropriate for middle schoolers, please send them our way! Thank you for your support!
