Dear Grade 8 students and families,
Welcome back to Acadie to the graduating class of 2026! The staff of Module de l’Acadie are excited to welcome you to our school on Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:15 AM. We look forward to an exciting year with lots of activities, fun and learning en français! There is A LOT of important information in this letter, please read it carefully to support success in the first week at Acadie.
What time, where, and what class am I in? From 8:00 to 8:14 AM on the first day of school, please make your way to the bleachers on the football field at the back of the school where you will be organized into your classes. Student leaders will be wearing yellow vests and will help you find your class. A great deal of time and consideration has been put into the composition of class lists balancing both individual and group academic and social needs. Grade 7 teachers have carefully considered the best place for students.
Lockers: Lockers will be assigned on the first day of school. Grade 8 students will each have their own locker. Locks are provided. Here is a video reminder to brush up on opening a lock.
What to bring: Please dress to be active on the first day of school! When you arrive at school on the first day, you should bring a lunch, a water bottle, sunscreen, running shoes and you should dress for the weather (whether it be rain or shine).
Teachers will let you know what additional class specific school supplies you will need for class; the following items are required for all:
- 2 binders (one for English subjects, one for French) with minimum of 8 dividers
- A pencil case with plenty of pencils, an eraser, a coloured pen, a blue or black pen, highlighters, scissors and a glue stick
- A geometry kit with a protractor, compass and ruler
- A scientific calculator (square root, square, and exponent buttons required) Example
- Indoor & outdoor running shoes. Crocs/sandals or fashion shoes can be worn in between classes, running shoes are required EVERYDAY for indoor/outdoor physical education.
In music, Grade 8s who borrowed an Acadie instrument last year, please consider other options to allow others to use the Acadie resources. Instruments can be rented from Long & McQuade, Arden’s Music, St. John’s Music, or borrowed from Joe’s M.I.L.L. We will be using the same music book Standards of Excellence in grade 8 - please bring your book to school.
Please label supplies, clothes, lunch kits, and water bottles.
* Supplies can be provided for students who are not able to bring their own materials. Please alert the office or your homeroom teacher if you need some support to get materials.
Bussing: Please ensure that you have applied for busing for your child through Tri-Board.
Students need to know their bus number in order to find their bus at the end of the day. Review this map for the approximate location of the bus for end of the day pick up.
Medical Conditions: Medical forms were sent out by email to parents/guardians of students with known medical conditions and can be found here -Form 1, Form 2. We ask that you fill out these forms and send them in with your child, along with any medication, during the first week of school.
Cell Phones: Students will be keeping their cell phones away in their lockers for the entire day (including pause/recess and lunch) in order to help them fully concentrate on their school work and interact with their friends in person. Students are encouraged to leave their phones at home, as we have chromebooks for them to use for school tasks. If you need to reach your child during the day, please contact the main office: 613-389-0091. We encourage parents to add parental controls to their child’s phone to restrict unnecessary apps/notifications that might lead to distraction. Thank you for helping your child adjust to this expectation.
Peanut, tree nut, and scent free: Students should not bring peanuts or tree nuts to school. While perfumes/colognes are on trend, they should be reserved for outside of school as they induce allergic reactions in some staff and students.
