Just keep scrolling ... lots of information, good news and pictures for you this week! Enjoy! Sarah

Attendance Matters

School begins at 8:15 which means students need to be at school at 8:10 to gather their belongings and prepare for class. We appreciate your support in making sure your child gets to bed at a reasonable time, so that they are able to wake up and get to school on time.  We know this is a challenge for teenagers and tweens!  Charging phones in the kitchen and setting up parental controls are a great way for students to not have access to stimulus in their rooms late at night.

Winter dress

IMG 7238The winter season is upon us, and with that brings wet and cold weather.  Students will be going outside every day for fresh air and exercise, and need to dress appropriately for the weather.  If your child is in need of a winter coat or boots, please reach out to Ms. Fitz or your child’s homeroom teacher.  We have contacts with various community organizations who can help.

We will encourage students to make good choices with their dress, but ultimately it is their decision what they will wear outside, and there are natural consequences for those decisions. Please discuss your expectations for how you expect your child to dress in cold/wet weather at home.

Acadie Food Drive

Hello parents! We are collecting food for the “Partners in Mission Food Bank”. If you are able, please send your child to school with a nonperishable food item.

Most wanted items:

  • Money
  • Canned Meat and Fish
  • Peanut butter
  • Stews and soup
  • Food for babies
  • Diapers
  • Tomato sauce
  • Cereal
  • 100% Fruit juice

There will be a small prize at the end of November for the class with the most items and grand prizes for the classes that have collected the most food or money before the winter break. Thank you for your support, Acadie Social Committee

Lego Robotics

Lego Robotics is in full swing! We currently have 7 enthusiastic teams of 3 to 4 students learning some coding skills and how to build their robots. We are aiming to meet twice a week at lunch. Keep your eyes peeled for news of the LDSB Skills competition, typically hosted in early spring.

Grade 7 music

Students will be playing their next test - #24 - starting next week.  Have you heard practising at home?  Please encourage your child, celebrate their success, and ask them to share their ORANGE rubric with you after they have played their test in class.

Clarinet & Saxophone players need reeds - 2 in their instrument box at minimum. Students have been struggling with no-name reeds purchased from Amazon, I highly recommend the RICO brand. Clarinet and tenor sax reeds should be 2.5, alto sax 3.0.  There is a limited stock in the music room for purchase for $2 each.

Please ensure that instruments NEVER are left outside or in the cold/heat - the expansion/contraction will damage the instrument.

FSS Winter Concert

Several musicians from Acadie will be sharing the stage with Frontenac musicians Friday, December 12th for the Winter Concert. The concert will take place in the FSS library from 7 to 8:30 pm. There will be a variety of ensembles, band and classes performing. There is a suggested donation of $2 entrance fee. Snacks are available as well as a silent auction!

Each leg of the race features physical and mental tasks. The first team to arrive at the final destination will win the Jingle Bell Amazing Race.

Competitive Volleyball Kingston Secondary Tournament

Congratulations to the girls A and B volleyball team on an impressive showing at the Kingston Secondary School volleyball tournament. The B team played tough defence against several very strong-serving teams and played good team volleyball. The A team took Vanier to a 3rd set in the semi-finals, showing great serving and increasingly strong net play. Coaches Rhamey and Benn are proud to coach these fantastic athletes!processed CFFD7819 F9C8 4C0D 919A 2CDFD43C6651

Health Class

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

Red Maple

The Red Maple program at Acadie has been a HUGE hit this year! Students are thoroughly enjoying the books.  We cannot keep copies on our shelves, and we have ordered more copies of the favourite books.  Most of the titles are also available to loan from the Kingston Public Library.  If any students/families have purchased a copy and are willing to loan their copy out to other students/classes, that would also be greatly appreciated.  Your child can connect with their English teacher to help navigate this process.

See Yourself in Limestone – Student Census Survey

Limestone is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.

The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. This data is then paired with academic information to help us understand what school is like for different groups of students.

Important information for families:

· The survey is optional.

· Responses are confidential and students can skip any questions they do not wish to answer.

· Students will complete the survey during class time.

· Students who do not participate will be provided with an alternative activity.

By better understanding students’ identities and experiences, we can remove barriers and better support students in accessing what they need to succeed.
