Spring has sprung - consolidation of learning, summative tasks, learning celebrations and year end trips are in student schedules for the remainder of the school year! Please help your student experience success during this exciting time of year - adequate sleep and exercise, healthy eating, and a sense of what to expect in their schedules will help with emotional regulation at both school and home. Year end celebrations and special events also require extra time invested by teaching staff - when you have the chance, please join me in saying THANKS to staff for volunteering their time as coaches, organizers, tour directors and chaperones. ~ Sarah

Forest of Reading Festival
54 students and 4 chaperones attended the annual Festival of Reading on Wednesday at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. In an exciting twist, a novel written by a first-time author won the Red Maple Award - the winner was ‘If We Tell You’, by Nicola Dahlin. Runners-up were ‘The Factory’ by Catherine Egan, and ‘Finding Harmony’ by Eric Walters.
We met several of our favourite authors, attended workshops hosted by authors/illustrators, and visited the many booths and displays. We even got to get our photos taken while determining, ‘How many books tall am I?’
It was great to have Ms. Milford share such a wonderful day with the students! We want to extend our thanks to Ms. Newell for organizing such an amazing experience, and Mme. DaCosta and Ms Benn for volunteering to chaperone!
Frontenac Community Concert Band Visit
Many thanks to the Frontenac Community Concert Band who came for a visit to WOW students with their musical tallent, teach about their instruments and inspire students to continue in their music education.
Football
Football tryouts wrapped up this week with an excellent turnout. Coaches were very impressed with the talent, effort, and enthusiasm shown by all students. The teams played very well and had a lot of fun taking to the field this week in a couple exhibition games in preparation for the tournament next week on Wednesday May 20th. We are looking forward to a fun tournament at LCVI!

Road Race
Our running club members participated in the LCVI Road Race last week and did a phenomenal job! All of our senior girls had great times, and one of our senior girls even made the top 10. Our boys team finished in 2nd, with a 1st and 6th place finish from two of our senior boys. Well done runners, your coaches are proud of all of your hard work and dedication! We look forward to continuing to practice for the month of May alongside our distance runners for Track & Field.

Diner en ville - Updated schedule
Staff have seen continued growth and maturity in our students throughout this year. With this in mind, we are giving students an extra opportunity to enjoy diner en ville each week if they choose.
Grade 8s - Tuesdays and Fridays
Grade 7s - Wednesdays and Fridays
Students do not have to spend money; they are welcome to go to Lasalle Park or Auden Park, or go for a walk in the neighbourhood behind the school. The off-property privilege can be about enjoying nature and each others’ company, rather than about spending money. We will be reinforcing this message at school and invite you to discuss it with your child as well.
