Welcomed back Mr James Bonham-Carter who is the FSS/Acadie principal for the remainder of the school year. We have entered the VERY BUSY time of the year. Have a look through this long but very informative newsletter so you can keep up to date on all that will happen in the last 19 days of school! ~ Sarah

An important message from Principal Bonham-Carter and Vice-Principal Lasko:

Students who are not on the Acadie track and field team are not permitted to attend the track and field meet during the school day on June 3rd or June 9th. Any non-team members who are in attendance at the meet, and are not directly supervised by their own parent/guardian, will be reported as absent. LESSA coordinators will contact school administrators and parents to have them picked up.

Acadie Heritage Fair

Students in Mme Johnson’s Grade 8 History classes -8E1, 8E2, and 8E3 - impressed this week as they presented their Heritage Fair projects to classes 7E1, 7E3, and 7E4. It was wonderful to see them confidently share their research and passion for their chosen topics with younger students. Bravo to all our young historians for their hard work and leadership!

  • Mme JohnsonExecutive Award for Teachers

A heartfelt congratulations to all participants for your hard work, curiosity, and enthusiasm. You represented Acadie with pride and excellence!

On Friday June 19th, 8:15am-2:30pm, all Acadie grade 7 students will be exploring our city through the lenses of French, History, and Community, and will be sharing their music skills with family and community members! The day will be divided into three sections; students will share an instrumental music performance for spectators, enjoy a scavenger hunt downtown, and “dîner au CENTRE-ville” (lunch out downtown). This is a wonderful opportunity to apply our French, History and Music learning to authentic activities.  We will be travelling to and from Acadie using Kingston Transit - a lesson on how to use the bus will be integrated in our travel.

Grade 8 Music Celebration - Join us!

Parents, supporters and music fans are invited to the Grade 8 music end-of-year concert June 2nd at 9:00AM in the cafeteria. - M Wiens

Football

IMG 0243

Both of Acadie’s football teams delivered outstanding performances at the recent Calvin Cup tournament, showcasing strong effort, teamwork, and growth in every game. We are incredibly proud of the players for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day.

The Acadie A team battled their way to an impressive second-place finish, coming just short against Vanier in a hard-fought final. Meanwhile, the Acadie B team finished strong with a great win in their final consolation game.

Fantastic work to all players! ~ Coaches Brown and Ross

Track & Field

The Region 2 track & field meet is on June 3rd, and training continues for our athletes. Practices for jumps and throws have been held during lunch recesses, and sprints (100m and 200m) are held on Mondays after school. Middle and long-distance runners train on Tuesdays at lunchtime and Thursdays after school.

Athletes and their parents are encouraged to look into the public availability of Caraco Field over the weekend, where athletes can go to train for free. The facility is generally open to the public from 7 am-11 pm, except on statutory holidays. Any training done outside of Acadie practices will further benefit our team next week!

Cafeteria Pop-up

FSS will be running a cafeteria pop up on Monday June 8th in the cafeteria. We will be serving drinks, snacks, baked goods (all for $1) and slider sandwiches (for $ 2.50). It is better if students can bring change (loonies) instead of using a debit card so the line moves faster.

Grade 8 Graduation Details:

Grad rehearsal: Wednesday, June 24th   8:15-10:15 AM

It is imperative for grade 8 students to be present and on time on the morning of June 24th so they can attend the grad rehearsal which will run from 8:15-10:15 AM. This will ensure that all students know what to expect and what their responsibilities will be on the afternoon of grad. Report cards will be handed out at the end of the grad rehearsal and we ask that you do not schedule any appointments until after this time. Parents picking up students early to prepare for grad are asked to inform the office ahead of time by email or phone call or to send a note with your student. Students with permission to sign out directly after graduation rehearsal will do so in the gym with a designated staff member (TBD).

Grad ceremony: Wednesday, June 24th 4:00-5:30 PM in the Frontenac Secondary School gym

Students will be required to arrive no later than 3:45 PM and will proceed to the designated area as directed in the grad rehearsal. Seating is first come, first served, and at this time we do not restrict families to a certain number of guests. No tickets are required. Please prepare to be in a HOT gym for the duration of the ceremony. The ceremony is typically over by 5:30, but that time can flex from year to year depending on the number of graduates we have.

Grad Cruise: Wednesday, June 24th  (7:30 PM arrival time) 8:00-10:00 PM (cruise) at Crawford's Wharf

Our grad cruise on the Island Queen will take place from 8:00-10:00 PM and departs from Crawford's Wharf at 1 Brock Street in downtown Kingston. Students must arrive no later than 7:30 PM in order to have attendance done and to board the boat for the 8:00 PM departure.  Please allow extra time for parking as the downtown area is very busy during this time. Permission form and associated cost will be posted on school day in June. Cake is provided by the school on the cruise but there is also a snack bar available on board if students would like to bring cash or debit to purchase additional drinks or snacks.

For grade 8s who missed the yearbook last year, there are a few 2025 copies available for $25. See Ms Fitz for either copy. Thank you to head editor Matthew D, Mme Fitz and Mme Chantal for their hard work in getting this year's edition to press!

We are excited that the frisbee season is underway! Practices will take place at lunch. The tournament is scheduled for June 12th.
