We have had a nice start to term 2 at Acadie. Here's a peek into what we have been doing in the last few weeks (there are lots of photos). ~ Sarah
If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling in grade 7 at Module de l’Acadie
The Limestone District School Board's Choices at 7 programs offer opportunities for students entering Grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments.
The Choices at 7 program offered at Module de l’Acadie is Extended French Immersion.
If you or someone you know is interested in finding out more about our program, you are invited to attend the information night Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m at Module de l’Acadie.
If your child is in grade 6 at a LDSB school and has been taking French Immersion:
An application is not required. Students currently enrolled in a LDSB French Immersion program will be automatically transferred to their immersion site.
Curling
The Acadie Phys Ed classes had the opportunity to do some in-school curling last week as part of the Rocks & Rings program. Students learned the FUNdamentals of curling and participated in a week-long tournament known as the ACADIE BONSPIEL.
Cooking Adventures at Acadie!
During the Frontenac exam period, many of our Acadie students had the exciting opportunity to step into the Frontenac kitchens with Mme Gauthier‑Marois, Mme Keely, and M. Jeremy for some hands‑on culinary fun! Students had a blast following recipes en français and preparing delicious dishes such as les muffins aux bananes, le fettuccine Alfredo au brocoli, les scones au cheddar, la pizza, and even la croustade aux pommes.
Beyond the tasty results, students strengthened key skills - learning essential kitchen safety procedures, practising proper knife handling and working safely around hot elements. They also expanded their French vocabulary (discovering, for example, that cuillère à soupe means “tablespoon”!) and learned how to take turns washing and putting away dishes efficiently.
Candygrams
Comité Social has been selling Candygrams at pause for 50 cents each until the 12th of February. By purchasing, students can fill out a card to have their message and a small candy delivered to their friends in any of the classes at Acadie on Feb. 13th. All proceeds are going to the Sandy Pines Wildlife Rescue Centre.
Teacher Candidates from Queen`s
Acadie`s grade 7 students have the chance to work with Mlle Herrington in the art room during the month of February as she teaches a unit on relief printing, which is her area of expertise. Students will use specialized carving tools and will go through the process of designing, transferring, carving, then inking their designs. We are excited to learn from her!
Manie Musicale is Back On!
Manie Musicale is an annual bracket-style competition for students and teachers of French. Similar to March Madness basketball in the United States, participants try to predict which of 16 francophone songs will be the most popular. Once the tournament starts, voters decide which song will advance to the next round until we have a champion. The best part? Students learn French while having fun with students from all over the world.
If you would like to join in on the fun with your child, just pop on the playlist while you are driving the parent taxi:

FSS band - term 2
Acadie students are invited to join the FSS Level 100 band which will be starting up again February 9th from 2:30 to 3:30PM in the Frontenac SS Music Room. This is a good time to join as we are starting new pieces! ~ M Davey
Basketball
Girls Basketball
The Acadie Wolves have done a great job of coming together as a team after several delays in choosing the roster. We’ve played against Calvin Park and Cataraqui Woods, displaying excellent hustle and strong team-defence. We’re learning a lot in practices, and looking forward to our games this week against Vanier and LaSalle. We will participate in the LESSA Final Tournament at Queen’s University on February 19th. Our REC players will be starting next week to play at lunchtimes, and will go to play 3-on-3 basketball at KSS on March 6th.

Boys Basketball
The Acadie Boys basketball had a great turnout for tryouts - over 50 boys are currently participating in the school basketball program. We have two competitive teams (A - grade 8’s and B - grade 7’s). The rest of our players participate in our lunch time REC 3-on-3 Intramural league. Those players will play weekly games and the season will culminate with the REC Tournament at KSS on March 6th.
Our competitive teams have been busy with practices and exhibition games. Our boys A team is currently 1-1 with a close 35-33 loss at Vanier but followed it up with a 33-30 win at home vs LaSalle. The boys B team is undefeated (1-0) after a hard-fought win 32-29 vs LaSalle. The Wolves play Calvin Park this week before heading to the LESAA Tournament at Queen’s next week. Good luck to all participants.

Messages from Community Partners:
The STEPS program is currently accepting applications until the end of this month.
The STEPS program works with students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. The application process takes place in Grade 7, with programming scheduled throughout the Grade 8 year. In STEPS we work on building self-advocacy skills, self-knowledge, and self-esteem. This program is an excellent resource for students who could benefit from this extra support through the transition to high school. Each year, we work with students from all over Kingston and the surrounding area with great success.
The STEPS program is designed for students with learning challenges at school related to learning disabilities and/or ADHD. It also includes programming for their parents.
To be eligible for this program, students must:
- Apply for the program during the fall/winter of their Grade 7 year
- Have impairments in academic achievement and require accommodations at school
- Be previously diagnosed with a relevant disability (e.g., a learning disability or ADHD), or have a history that strongly suggests a relevant disability
- Have average intellectual functioning, based on previous assessment findings
Students without a recent psychoeducational assessment will receive one through our office at the cost of $2000 (with option to pay in instalments over 1 year). We do also currently have some bursary funds available to help offset some of the cost for families who may not be able to afford the full assessment cost. The STEPS program itself is free for families. We will accept applications up until February 28, 2026. Please note that there is a limited number of spaces in the STEPS program each year.
The application package and our flyer can be found here: https://www.queensu.ca/rarc/transitions/steps
