Acadie School Start-up Letter

Start-up Information
Posted on 08/26/2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As school start-up approaches, we are reaching out to welcome your child to Module de l’Acadie.  Although this year will be very different from what we have known in the past, we will do our best to plan and be prepared, following all Health Unit guidelines for safety.  As issues arise, we will work together to resolve them with a focus on student safety and well-being.

Staggered Entry:

The Ministry of Education recently announced that school boards were permitted to adopt a staggered start to the school year.  This will allow additional time for students to adjust to new routines, and learn health and safety practices and protocols, in smaller class sizes.  Our staggered student entry plan is as follows:

  • Students with last names beginning with A-K will attend Thursday, September 3rd, Tuesday September 8th and Thursday September 10th.
  • Students with last names beginning with L-Z will attend Friday September 4th, Wednesday September 9th and Friday September 11th

All students will attend together starting on Monday September 14th, 2020.

School Supplies:

At this point in time, instrumental music is not permitted, so there is no need to rent/buy a musical instrument for your child.  In order to avoid close contact between students in the hallways, lockers will not be assigned at this time.  As a result, students will have to keep their belongings with them in their bag in the classroom.  Please have your child bring the following items to school:

  • a mask
  •  sunscreen and a hat
  • a small towel/something to sit on outside
  • clothing for wet weather (we will refrain from going out if it is raining hard)
  • a reusable water bottle (refillable water stations are available, but drinking taps are not)
  • if needed, allergy medicine and inhalers
  • if possible, please send your child with a binder, pens, pencils, a ruler, a geometry kit, pencil crayons and a fine tipped black marker to reduce the sharing of supplies.  The school will provide these items for students who do not bring their own.
  • a lunch

Lunch:

It is important to note that the cafeteria will not be open and students will not be allowed to go to neighbourhood restaurants to get food for their lunch (as was the general practice on Fridays).  In addition, there will be no microwaves for heating food; please keep this mind when sending food with your child.  It is also recommended that students who normally would go home for lunch stay at the school instead.

Welcome Video for Students New to Acadie:

Please enjoy the following short video that provides a brief glimpse of the Acadie wing.  Special thanks to grade 8 student, Anna Powick, for helping make this video :)

As we get closer to re-entry, we will continue to share information with our families.  We thank you in advance for your support and cooperation as we work together to ensure a great return to school for everyone.

Sincerely,
