Acadie Mathematics Update

Acadie has been fundraising since September to purchase a subscription to Netmath, a made-in-Canada French-language mathematics program. The online program features a variety of different problems linked to the Ontario Curriculum. Students get immediate feedback about their mistakes and how to fix them. There is also lots of opportunities for enrichment and extension. Teachers will be using this in class for practice and assessment purposes. Ask your child to show you the online platform at home.

Parents can read about Netmath program by using this link https://netmath.ca/en/

Girls: The girls volleyball A team played in the LESSA tournament at KSS on December 2, with matches against the best volleyball teams in the city. They played as a team, kept each other's spirits up and showed amazing sportsmanship.

In a thrilling semi-final against the powerhouse team from Perth Road, we went to a 3rd and deciding set. Although we lost 10-15, the coaches are incredibly proud of the team’s performance at this tournament and throughout the season!  We give a generous thank you to our incredibly dedicated fans - their consistent support is appreciated by the players and coaches.

IMG 7296These girls are a pleasure to coach, and we will miss the 10 players who will graduate this year!

The girls volleyball B team went to LaSalle on December 3 for their final tournament. These grade 7s have come a long way this season. Improved serves and defensive positioning were on impressive display in each of their matchups. They finished the tournament with a 2-set win over the Vanier team.

Congratulations to all the players on their sportsmanship, dedication to the team, and hard work this season. The coaches were delighted to work with such a positive group of young athletes!

Boys: Both Boys A and B teams represented our school at the LESSA tournament with incredible effort and enthusiasm, playing hard and having a great time throughout the day!

The Boys A volleyball team showed a strong performance in their semi-final match against Calvin Park, going to a thrilling third set. Despite a hard-fought battle, they narrowly lost 17-15, but their teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship were outstanding. Coaches are extremely proud of their performance at the tournament and throughout the season.

The Boys B team also showed tremendous growth and energy in their games, demonstrating improved serving, positioning, and communication. Their positive attitude and commitment made every match exciting to watch.

A big thank you to our dedicated fans for their support. It means so much to the players and coaches. Congratulations to all for a fantastic season!

Health Class

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

RARC

Registration is open for virtual Parent Workshop Series this winter! This free workshop series is for the parents or guardians of students in Grades 7 or 8 with learning disabilities or ADHD. Registration is open until January 16th.  Space is limited so we recommend registering early!

Who We Are:

We are the Regional Assessment and Resource Centre. We are funded by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to help students with neurodevelopmental disabilities to access post-secondary education. We are located in Kingston, Ontario, however we work with students across Ontario. We provide support in a few different ways, one of which is offering transition programming.  We have transition programs available for students in Grade 12 (check out our website for more information) and we also have programming for students in Grades 7 and 8.  The earlier we can support students with neurodevelopmental disabilities – the more likely they are to be prepared for the transition to college and university.

We have been running the STEPS (Successful Transitions from Elementary to Post-Secondary) program in Kingston for over 15 years, offering workshops to students (and their parents) in Grades 7 and 8 with learning disabilities and ADHD.  Because of the nature of the programming, it has been restricted to in-person programming offered in Kingston, Ontario.  Over the past few years, we have been working to expand our programming across Ontario.  For the STEPS program, we have done that in two ways.  We have created an 8-session curriculum that schools can use to run student programming in their own school (contact us for more information about this), as well as offering parent programming as a stand-alone workshop series. This winter we will deliver it over 3 virtual evening sessions.

The Parent Workshop Series:

This virtual series is open to parents of students in Grades 7 or 8 in Ontario with learning disabilities or ADHD.  Please note that this programming will be offered in English.

The goal of the sessions is to provide parents:

  • information and support to understand their child’s experience and potential more fully
  • skills to navigate the school system
  • ability to provide timely and targeted support
  • support to know they are not alone

There is no cost to the program, however attendance at all three sessions is required. These sessions will run on the following Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 pm EST:

  • January 28th
  • February 4th
  • February 11th

Parents/guardians can be complete their registration directly using the following link:
